The neutral salt spray test is a very frequently used corrosion test, which is described in the relevant standard as a rapid test for materials and coatings. This test does not simulate real conditions, but materials can be compared very well by exposing them to the corrosive conditions defined in the standard. The same applies to the condensation water test, although it is less corrosive than the salt spray test.

Description of the system

The device is suitable for carrying out salt spray tests in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9227 or ASTM B117, condensation tests in accordance with DIN EN ISO 6270-2 and hot air tests up to 60 °C. Various alternating tests, VW PV 1210 or ASTM G85 A3 (SWAAT), which also include standard climates in accordance with DIN 50014, are programmed. These methods can also be combined as required. As certain relative humidity conditions can also be set, it is possible to create user-specific alternating tests.

The sample geometry can be very different (see table below). By combining this device with one of the climatic test chambers also available in the IW, the VDA 233-102 climatic cycling test (successor to the withdrawn VDA cycling test 621-415) can also be carried out in accordance with standards.
