The video-supported contact angle measuring device enables the measurement of the contact angle and the calculation of the free surface energy in addition to the simple determination of the drop contour. This allows rapid characterization of sample surfaces and their treatment, which usually has a direct influence on the contact angle. This method can also be used to determine the wetting properties of greases, oils or adhesives.

Description of the system

In addition to the use of pure water as a test solution, in which a distinction can be made between hydrophilic (low contact angle) and hydrophobic surfaces (contact angle around 90°), various other test solutions are also possible. Accordingly, thicker needles can also be used to generate drops with higher viscosity test solutions. With the help of the SCA 20/21 software for the video-supported measurement of static and dynamic contact angles, the results are evaluated and presented according to the “sessile & captive drop method”, among others.
